Welcome to the
Alberto Credi Research Group Website
Our group is based at the Dipartimento di Chimica "Giacomo Ciamician" of the University of Bologna. We are part of the Photochemical Nanosciences Laboratory and the Interuniversity Center for the Chemical Conversion of Solar Energy (SolarChem).
We are a young and dynamic team that addresses problems of frontier research in the nanoscience field by following a chemical bottom-up approach. Our background has its roots in the long-standing tradition of inorganic photochemistry, started in the 1960-70s by professor Vincenzo Balzani and his coworkers (Roberto Ballardini, Fabrizio Bolletta, Teresa Gandolfi, Alberto Juris, Mauro Maestri, Luca Moggi, and Margherita Venturi, who is still an essential collaborator), and expanded to organic and supramolecular photochemistry and electrochemistry in the 1980s-90s. Our core discipline is Chemistry, but we like the interaction with other fields such as theoretical and experimental physics, materials science, pharmaceutical science, biochemistry, and computer science.
Our experimental activity is focused on the synthesis, photophysics, photochemistry, and electrochemistry of molecular species, inorganic nanocrystals, and supramolecular assemblies.
The main objective of our research is the development and investigation of nanoscale devices, that is, chemical systems that exhibit functionalities arising from the structural and/or functional integration of components at the nanometer scale. More information is available in the Research page. An introduction to our research interests for non-specialists can be found in the Tutorial page. Please visit the Lab tour page to have a look at the infrastructures, equipment and techniques of the Photochemical Nanosciences Laboratory that we employ in our research.
Thank you for your visit. I hope you will enjoy it.
